The Fashion Archive
In the 1930s, Miss Henrietta Thompson established the core historic costume and textiles collection for teaching purposes in the College of Human Environmental Sciences' Department of Clothing, Textiles, and Interior Design. Initially, it resided in a non-climate-controlled room on the fourth floor of Doster Hall, later moving to Alumni Hall in the 1980s, and then to Mary Harmon Bryant Hall in the mid-1990s. In 2018, the appointment of a new curator marked a pivotal moment for the collection. This curator ushered in a period of revitalization by introducing professional standards and best practices in collections management and preservation.

The collection as of August 2023, intended for study, research, and exhibition, is currently housed on the basement level of the newly constructed Drummond Lyon Hall in state-of-the-art facilities. This significant step has brought about numerous major changes, elevating The Fashion Archive's prominence on the UA campus, and nurturing a more profound dedication to its collections, research initiatives, and community engagement efforts This transition not only ensures the collection's physical well-being but also enhances its accessibility for research and public engagement.
